Lilac is making a comeback in the world of fashion! You'll find it literally everywhere. Starting from hats, through dresses, T-shirts, trousers, even jackets, ending on shoes and handbags. You must admit that there is plenty to choose from? We present 6 clothes and accessories that will surely appeal to your taste!

Colour trends change with the seasons just like colours in nature. Autumn is reserved for deeper, richer shades (burgundy, earthy, mossy greens, mustard yellows and similar), while spring usually greets us with a whole range of bright, cheerful pastels.

To everyone's surprise, among the fashionable colours for autumn-winter 2021 on many shows for this season, lilac appeared, typical for the spring-summer season. Lavender fields, against all odds, have bloomed in autumn, and lilac purple has already settled in the wardrobes of influencers and celebrities.

Fashionable colours for autumn-winter 2021

Before you learn how to wear lilac purple and the most interesting clothes available on Vitkac.com in this colour, familiarise yourself with the palette of fashionable colours for autumn-winter 2021. It is just as interesting as lilac itself. This season, apart from it, the following will also be fashionable:

  • deep burgundy,
  • brick red,
  • rich navy,
  • olive green,
  • grey,
  • fuchsia,
  • powder pink in a warm shade,
  • and browns, especially in chocolate and cinnamon, warm shades.

For each colour type, you will find a suitable shade. The colours and shades mostly “stick” to associations with the upcoming season. However, where did the idea come from to break the convention and introduce something blooming in autumn? Who started the trend for lilac colour?

Where did the trend for lilac colour come from?

This is not the first time lilac purple has appeared on autumn shows. Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel proposals in the 90s were famous for intricate stylisations in shades of lilac. In the 80s, Balenciaga and Giorgio Armani also strongly promoted purples. These were however mere flashes.

Lilac purple, however, has never appeared in such quantities as in this autumn/winter 2021 season: from Stella McCartney, through Salvatore Ferragamo, BOSS and Jil Sander (!), to Chanel. Lilac appeared e.g. on glitter boots, quilted jackets and flared dresses or sweaters proving that it also fits the autumn in this version.

The real craze for purple, however, erupted in February 2021, when J.W. Anderson presented a dress in orchid colour in his collection. This started experiments of various brands with shades of purple. When Paris Fashion Week was coming to an end, Chanel turned pink tweeds in skirts into a shade of lilac purple, and Miu Miu proposed down jackets in this original colour.

Lilac purple - what to wear it with?

Lavender works perfectly with both Pantone colours of the year: canary yellow in the shade of Illuminating and stone grey, so if you have already invested in these colour trends in 2021, you are a step ahead. They will also look great with dark, deep green or khaki. Total look in the colour of lilac purple will also be appreciated.

For an afternoon meeting with a friend, combine e.g. a lilac dress with a yellow handbag and high heels. For everyday wear to the office, a sweater or shirt in the colour of lilac purple can be worn with a grey blazer and trousers. In the evening, choose a sequin dress in the colour of lilac and combine it e.g. with heels on an unusual, carved heel.

No matter which option you lean towards, accessories and clothes in this colour will elevate your outfit to another level. Test something new this season and opt for e.g. a lilac coat instead of chestnut or brown. Who knows, maybe lavender purple will stay with us until spring?
