When a stylish man plans his summer outfit, he knows that moccasins or Oxford shoes will go well with his linen suit, but the very thought of sandals makes him cringe. By some men sandals are considered to be too feminine, while many others associate them with bad taste and the sort of holidaymaker who would wear white socks with sandals without blinking an eye. However, if you follow fashion trends, you know that stylish sandals appropriate to the occasion can be a perfect choice for a hot day. See what to wear and when to wear it to keep up with the newest trends!

Elegance in leather

Let’s start with the classics. There are two models of men’s sandals which are appropriate for almost every occasion and sit well with even the most fashion-shy guys. First things first, colour – although there are not many motifs and colours considered passé, you can never go wrong with classic black or chocolate brown. As for the style, the most popular model of men’s sandals is a flat shoe with three straps attached to the sole – one at the heel and two at the front. Good examples of this elegant, timeless style can be found in collections from Marni and Lanvin. The second classic type of sandals features thick leather straps crossed at the front.

Sport casual

Socks with sandals? No way – would say someone who is not familiar with the latest trends. This season, designers like MSGM and Versace focus on outdoor activities and comfortable sportswear. The archetype of a muscular, athletic, active man served as Donatella Versace’s inspiration for the latest Versus and Versace collections. It’s no wonder, then, that she designed sandals with sports shoe soles and numerous straps, which provide a secure and comfortable fit. Her looks included socks made of high-quality fabrics, which enriched (!) the sandals. The shoes came in the collection’s signature colours: navy, black, beige and purple, and the straps were decorated with Versace’s Greek key pattern.

Men’s slides and flip-flops on the loose

Sandals are not the only option. If you want to set your feet free, consider a beach look with slip-on slides. The fact that this style is reserved for casual, weekend outfits doesn’t mean that a stylish man should avoid it. In fact, classic flat slides with a wide strap took pride of place in this season’s collections by Haider Ackermann, Fendi and Vivienne Westwood.

Last but not least, we come to the style that many men disapprove of – flip-flips. Some consider them to be too feminine, but they can be lifesavers on a hot day. They can come in two versions: slides and sandals (for example the new model of studded sandals from Giuseppe Zanotti).
